The Japanese word Oku describes a sense of inner depth.

A condition where space is not immediately revealed, but gradually discovered through movement, light and perception.OKU House draws inspiration from this concept.

Architecture

From the street, the house presents itself as a restrained and protective volume. Deliberately introverted, it reveals little of what lies beyond. Rather than seeking attention, it creates a sense of curiosity, inviting a slower and more deliberate experience of architecture.

As one moves through the house, space unfolds progressively. Layers of enclosure and openness create a sequence of discoveries, where each transition reveals a new relationship between light, material and landscape. Depth is not measured by distance alone, but by the richness of the spatial experience.

Natural light becomes an essential design tool, guiding movement and shaping atmosphere throughout the day. Carefully framed views establish moments of connection with the exterior while preserving a profound sense of privacy and retreat.

More than a formal composition, OKU House is an exploration of how architecture can be experienced. A house conceived as a journey inward, where space is discovered rather than revealed, and where depth emerges through perception, time and light.
